Living a healthy lifestyle can seem exhausting. There seems to be so many rules when it comes to what you can and can’t do. Well I say to hell with those rules! You don’t have to live the life of a fitness guru in order to live a healthy lifestyle. You just need to find the right balance in your life. For example; I love a strong cup of coffee in the morning, pancakes once in a while for breakfast and I’ve never turned down a piece of pizza in my entire life. Obviously I am in no way perfect. But I found a balance that works for me. It’s a way for me to keep my body and my mental health at their best so I can feel my best. To help you find your balance I’ve put together this list of some of my favorite quick and simple tips that you can incorporate into your daily life to get you feeling good and keep your energy high throughout the day.
1. Drink Water First Thing In The Morning
It’s so important to start your day off with a big glass of water. We lose water while we’re sleeping so we need to rehydrate first thing in the am. Plus this will also help flush out toxins and get us hydrated and ready for the day.
2. Take Your Multivitamin
A multivitamin helps make sure you are getting all the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy and happy. *Added bonus-If you are into the gummy vitamins, they taste delicious! I look forward to them every single morning.
3. Use Healthy Cooking Oils in Place of Vegetable Oil
This is such a super simple thing to switch in your diet. Start cooking with healthy oils like coconut oil, avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil. Try to steer clear of partially hydrogenated oils. Those are filled with terrible trans-fats that can lead to disease.
4. Start Your Day With A Healthy Breakfast
You’ve heard it before, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Don’t skip it. If you’re in a hurry go for some avocado toast or make some overnight oats the night before. It’s the easiest breakfast in the world, you can just grab and go.
5. Clear Out Clutter
I love this one. I absolutely cannot stand clutter. The feeling of getting rid of things is so incredible to me. I feel like a whole new person when I’ve finally tackled a messy drawer or closet. When things are organized and have a place we feel much more relaxed and less anxious. And there’s no better feeling in the world than being able to find exactly what you were looking for right when you want it.
6. Sweat
Sweating a bit each day is so good to get you moving, help you wake up and feel more energized throughout the day. And sweating out some of those toxins can’t hurt either.
7. Go For Walks When You Can
Try to incorporate walking more throughout your day. If you live in an area where things are a little more accessible on foot then try walking to get your errands done. Got a letter to mail or in the mood for a cup of coffee? Try walking to your destination instead. Don’t live that close to town? Try purposely parking further away to get in those extra steps.
8. Vitamin D
Did you know that almost half of Americans are deficient in vitamin D? Vitamin D’s main function is to help you build strong bones to keep you healthy. Our bodies produce vitamin D when we are soaking up some sunlight, but you can also get it through your diet. Foods like salmon, cod liver oil and even mushrooms can all help increase your vitamin D levels.
9. Get Outside
As I just mentioned having some fun under the sun is super beneficial in order for our bodies to get some much needed vitamin D. But if this isn’t reason enough to get you outside then consider this. Research has shown that getting outside and spending some time in the fresh air can greatly impact our moods. We feel much less stressed when we’re surrounded by nature making us actually feel happier. So if you’re starting to feel yourself get into a bit of a funk in the middle of your day, consider taking a break and going for short walk outside.
10. Wake Up With A Positive Mindset
Let positive thoughts fill your mind the second you wake up. Think of things that make you happy. List a couple things you are grateful for. This is the perfect way to begin the day. This super simple technique will allow you to put your best foot forward and start your day in the most positive way. A positive mindset is the first step towards leading a healthy lifestyle.
11. Journal
I love starting my morning by writing down my thoughts and ideas. You don’t have to be an excellent writer to enjoy the benefits of writing. You are the only person who will ever see it so it really doesn’t matter what it sounds like. Write down what you’re grateful for, list out any goals you have for the day or write down some positive affirmations. I love doing this first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee.
12. Meditation
I’m sure you’ve heard the benefits of meditation before, but just in case you forgot, here a few amazing things meditation can bring into your life:
- Ease stress & anxiety
- Brings more calming energy into your life
- Helps you practice patience
- Relieves physical tension
Meditation comes with so many wonderful benefits to help you get you on your way to living a healthy lifestyle. There are also all different kinds of techniques when it comes to meditation so give it a try and find the one that works best for you. Remember it does take time to get the hang of it. You’ll get better with practice.
13. Get Up & Move
Moving throughout the day is a great way to reduce your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Incorporating different kinds of movement helps make those breaks feel more fun. You’ll look forward to those 10 minute time outs. Activities like yoga, walking or cardio are all a great way to help you break up the day and get your body moving.
14. Live A Healthy Lifestyle By Showing Gratitude
This is a great one to help with your mental health. Showing gratitude every day is a great technique to help get your mindset in the right place first thing in the morning. I love writing down a few things I’m grateful for during my morning coffee. It feels so good starting your day off like this.

15. Get Plenty of ZZZ’s
Sleep is extremely important when it comes to your health. You want to start your mornings off well rested and refreshed. So make sure you go to bed early enough in order to get plenty of rest so you are ready to take on whatever the next day brings you.
16. Recharge When You Need It
Don’t get into the mindset that everything on your To-Do list needs to be marked off before you can rest. If you’re anything like me, as things get checked off the list three more things get added. It’s ok if you don’t get to everything that day. There’s always tomorrow. Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to do everything. This will only lead to stress, anxiety and burnout. Instead take breaks when you need it. Recharge with a nice bubble bath or a nap when feel the need to refuel. Always remember that self-care is not selfish. It plays an extremely important role in your mental health.
17. Set Goals For A Healthy Lifestyle
Think of goals like a roadmap leading you straight to your dream life. What is it you want to accomplish this year? This month? Or even today? Write them down! Goals help keep us motivated and moving forward. Without them we’re just floating along without any real direction. But having a set of goals helps give us guidance. They help move us down the right path in life and help us create a clear vision for what it is we truly want.
18. Prepare The Night Before
A hectic morning is the worst way to start your day. Get everything ready the night before. Pack your lunch, layout your clothes, find the keys. Not only will you save so much time, but you’ll also feel far less frantic right before heading out the door.
19. Leave Time For Creativity
Make sure you leave time in your day for fun, creative things that you actually enjoy doing. Maybe it’s drawing, making things with your hands or coloring. Whatever it is make sure it always has a place somewhere in your day.
20. Add A Leafy Friend To Your Home
Studies have shown that plants help reduce stress and anxiety. I have quite a few hanging around my apartment. They instantly brighten up any room and I love watching them grow. If you fear your thumb isn’t green enough to bring a new plantie into your home, fear not. There are plenty of hardy plants out there that you will do just fine with. My favorite plants of steel are: The Snake Plant, Golden Pothos, or ZZ Plant.
21. Drink White Tea
Green tea always takes the spot light, but I actually prefer white tea instead. In my experience the taste is far less bitter than compared to green tea and is still packed with all the health benefits. It’s a win win if you ask me.
22. No Social Media At Least 1 Hour Before Bed
Remember earlier when I mentioned how important it is to start your day with a positive mindset? Well it’s just as important to end your day in the same way. Social media can be a wonderful tool to keep us all connected with one another, but it does come with it’s downsides. Bad news exists in the world. And I’m certainly not saying you need to shield yourself from it throughout your entire day. Keeping up with current events is important, but avoiding it right before bed can do wonders for your mental health. You’ll feel happier right before you hit the hay which will make falling asleep that much easier too! Remember, a healthy lifestyle is all about finding balance.
23. Let Go Of What You Can’t Control
Life is going to throw us curveballs from time to time. But understanding that some things are just out of our control will help ease the stress and anxiety. Don’t let these things get you down. Take an inhale. And a long exhale out and just let it all go.
24. Start A Healthy Morning Routine
Having a preplanned morning routine has changed my life! This is no joke people! I get out of bed several hours before I actually need to in order to give me enough time to show myself a little love every morning. If you need some help getting started, check out my Magical Morning Routine post.
25. Know That You Are Doing Amazing Each & Every Day
You are not perfect. I am not perfect. No one is friggin perfect! Don’t kill yourself trying to be something that no one can ever live up to. You are doing amazing every single day. You are finding balance in your life and that’s what it’s all about. Focus on yourself and what your body is telling you and will be well on your way to living best and healthiest life.
