Looking for the perfect gift for that person who has everything? Check out this list for non-material gift ideas that are sure to be the perfect. fit.
Finding the perfect gift can be so hard. We spend hours stressing over what to get people. But do they really need another shirt in the closest or coffee mug in the cupboard? Instead why not give a gift that inspires motivation and creativity and helps to better enrich their lives?
This year let’s think outside of the box and not send any boxes at all!
If you’re looking for some suggestions then check out this list I’ve put together of perfect non-material gift ideas sure to spread a little joy and happiness this holiday season.
But Why Give a Non Material Gift in the First Place?
Before we get started let’s talk a little about why sending non material gifts are such a great alternative to physical ones.
#1 We Have Too Much Stuff!
Now I live in a one bedroom apartment. It’s the perfect size for my boyfriend and I. Everything we own fits perfectly into our little home. But once we pack up the car and get ready to leave our families’ after Christmas, this terrible sense of dread comes rushing over me.
Where are we going to put all this STUFF!
And don’t get me wrong I absolutely love everything that people give me. I am so grateful that they thought of me and picked something out that they thought I would enjoy or need.
But I’m definitely more of a minimalist and the idea of stuff and clutter really makes me cringe. That’s why non tangible gifts are the perfect solution. No need to add to my collection of “stuff.”
Instead I get to enjoy a wonderful gift that someone picked out for me that takes up zero precious storage space.
#2 Gets You Out of Your Comfort Zone
Wouldn’t you love to receive a gift that lets you try something totally different? Something you’ve never done before, but secretly always wanted to?
These kinds of gifts are not only fun, but they help inspire the recipient to try something new, get out of their comfort zone and make some incredible memories along the way.
#3 Better for the Environment
And lastly, no boxes or gift bags means so no trash which is so much better for the planet. YAY!
So let’s dive into some of my favorite non material gift ideas to help get you started!
Inspirational
Audio Books
The great thing about books is that no matter who you are or what you’re interested in there is guaranteed to be a book out there that you’d enjoy. Even if you don’t necessarily consider yourself a big reader. That’s why audio books make the perfect non-material gift.
Photography Class
These days everyone loves to take pictures of, well everything. Do you have someone on your list who is especially into snapping that perfect photo? Why not gift them a photography class so they can continue developing their skills?
Cooking Class
I will be the first to admit that I am not the best cook. But I do enjoy trying out new and healthy recipes that I can whip up for my friends and family. And learning some new skills in the kitchen is a great place to start.
If you know someone whose cooking skills are slightly lacking (like mine) then maybe a cooking class is in their future?
Skillshare Membership
None of the above cutting it? How about a membership to Skillshare? No matter what hobbies they’re into, I can just about guarantee Skillshare will have a class for it.
Travel
Airbnb Gift Card
Know someone who absolutely loves to travel and check out new places? An Airbnb gift card is the perfect gift for them! Plus it will get them excited to start planning out their next weekend getaway.
Keeping along these lines you could also think about an airline gift card or even a gift card for Uber!
Experience
No matter where you live there is sure to be some pretty cool attractions located all around the city. Do a little digging to see what’s available. Here are just a few ideas to help get you started.
Helicopter Ride
Bungee Jumping
Indoor Skydiving
These all terrify me, but great ideas for the adventure seeker on your list.
Less extreme ideas, but still super fun could include:
Axe Throwing
Tickets to a Show at Your Local Theater
Health and Wellness
When it comes to the holidays, stress is never too far behind. Help ease the pressure and tension this season by giving them a gift geared towards self-care and rejuvenation.
Spa Gift Card
Because who wouldn’t enjoy a gift card for a massage or facial??
Subscription to a Meditation App
If you know someone in need of some stress relief in their life or if they are working on their meditation practice then a subscription to an app like Calm would be perfect! Calm provides all sorts of different types of stress management and better sleep techniques along with a fantastic library of guided meditations.
Workout Memberships
Exercise is not only great for your physical health but your mental health as well. I love to workout to help keep stress at bay.
There are so many great digital exercise programs out there that would make for the perfect gift for your loved one.
My personal favorite is the Boho Beautiful app. Not only do they have tons of yoga and pilates workout videos, but they also have a great selection of meditation videos too!
Have a yogi on your list or maybe a beginner who would love to start getting into yoga? Why not get them a month or two of yoga classes at their local studio? They can try out different styles of yoga to find the one that best suits them.
As you can see there are some pretty amazing non material gift ideas out there perfect for anyone on your holiday shopping list. I hope this helps inspire you to discover some new and exciting gift ideas that are different, unique and so unbelievably fun!
