Letting go is a crucial step to moving forward in life. We can’t move on to the next wonderful chapter until we’ve let go of things in our past that are holding us back.
But this is a little easier said than done.
When I first started out on my spiritual journey, I kept hearing this phrase over and over. During yoga classes “let it go.” During guided meditations “let it go.” But I was so confused on how to actually go about doing this.
So I started doing some research along with my own trial and error and put together this quick guide for anyone else who might be going through the same uncertainty that I did.
Let Go of Physical “Stuff”
Maybe you’re in search of that dream career, perfect relationship or that new, fancy car. But the right opportunities haven’t presented themselves to you yet.
It is very possible that these opportunities haven’t been visible to you because you aren’t able to see them with all the clutter in your life.
Physical clutter can lead to mental clutter. Mental clutter creates barriers that block us from moving forward in our lives. You’ve heard the phrase “out with the old and in with the new”? Well this is very much the same idea.
If there is something you are working to manifest into your life, an easy place to start is by getting rid of physical things around you that no longer serve you any purpose.
This helps make room for whatever wonderful thing you want to bring into you life. I like to start with this step first because it’s an easy one to action to and helps get your mindset in the right place.
So start going through drawers, bookshelves, cupboards and closets and get rid of whatever you no longer need. If it doesn’t have a purpose in your life toss it or donate it if you can. This can be a difficult step for some, but you will feel a million times better once you’re done.
Movement
Another way to “let go” is by literally letting go of built up energy within your body. Yoga is a great way to allow your body to release and relax. Try to incorporate some heart opening poses like camel pose, puppy pose and peaceful warrior to really help open yourself up and release any negative, unwanted energy being stored in your body.

Write it Down to Let it Go
Journaling is a great way to release and let go.
If you are new to journaling this exercise is simple. Begin by making a list of everything that no longer serves you. What is it that you want to let go of? Write that down. Once you are done read the list out loud.
Say to yourself “I let go of [insert here] because it no longer serves me. I no longer need this in my life.” You can phrase this however you’d like so it feels good for you. Do this for each one on your list. Read it back to yourself slowly.
Really believe the words you are saying and begin to feel yourself releasing that negative energy that was once associated with it.
I hope this mini guide helps you move forward and let go. Each of these actionable steps have been very helpful for me on my own journey and I hope they serve you as well.
