Who couldn’t use a little extra boost of productivity throughout their day? We all go through those slumps sometimes when motivation levels begin to fall and our productivity inevitably falls with it. But all you need is a plan and a little organization to get yourself right back on track. Soon you’ll feel more motivated than ever to go out there and have the most productive day ever!
Start the Day Before
#1 Visualize the Perfect Day
What do you want tomorrow to look like? What do you want to accomplish and how do you see the day playing out? I find these questions to be super helpful when it comes to planning out my tomorrow. I just take a few minutes to imagine the day unfolding. What am I wearing? What do I have for breakfast? I quickly run through what I want to get done tomorrow and imagine me accomplishing these tasks.
And even better when you visualize the perfect day, you are already setting yourself up for a successful day by getting into a more positive state of mind. This alone will help set the tone for tomorrow so you can be well on your way to having a very productive day.
#2 Plan Out Tomorrow’s Goals
Now that you have an idea of what you want tomorrow to be, begin writing down your tasks and to-do’s that you want/need to accomplish. It doesn’t matter how small or how big the task is. If it’s something on your radar that you want to get done write it down. Don’t worry if your list is getting pretty full. We’ll start breaking it into smaller, more manageable chunks next.

#3 Break it Down
Alright you’ve listed out everything on your to-do that needs tackled, but now you’re starting to freak out because that list is getting GINOURMOUS! Don’t worry! Because now we’re going to clean that list up a bit. Take a quick run through and decide; 1) Is this a top priority? 2) Does this need to get done today or can this move to tomorrow or later in the week? 3) Can any of these tasks be grouped together? Example let’s say running to the bank and picking up your prescription are both on your list. If the bank and the pharmacy happen to be right next to each other, these two should get grouped together so they are done at the same time.
#4 Speaking of the Day Before
Taking advantage of the evenings is a great way to give yourself some time back in the morning, ensuring a well managed and productive day. Go ahead and take care of these the night before:
- Get your clothes and workout clothes laid out.
- If you workout at home, plan out your workout class the night before.
- Get the coffee ready.
- I like to fill the water up in the coffee pot, fill the pod with my favorite coffee and have my mug waiting there for me patiently. All I have to do the next morning is simply push a button.
- Pack your lunch
- I think this is a great idea whether you work from home or not. Having your lunch ready to go in the morning just makes it that much easier come lunch time. There’s no time wasted so you can enjoy every minute of your lunch break.
The Day Of
#6 Morning Routine
If you’ve been following along with me on this journey for a little bit, then you already know how big of an advocate I am for a strong morning routine. Even if my day ends up not going the way I want it to, I know that it would have been a million times worse if I hadn’t started it off on the right foot.
As much as we try to plan on having the most productive day, we all know that sometimes life has other ideas. I’ve come to realize that the mornings are when we have the most control of our time. Take advantage of this before work, to-do lists and any other commitments have a chance to pull us away from the plan we’ve set in place.
The mornings are our time for a stress free start to the day. They are that guaranteed pocket of time for the self-care we have promised to give to ourselves. If you want to have the most amazing and most productive day, it all begins with how you start your day.
#7 Do Not Overload Yourself
By creating your to-do list the night before, you’ll be able to get a bird’s eye view of what tomorrow is going to look like. If you start to realize that it’s going to be almost impossible to get all of these tasks done in a single day, start to spread it out. What can shift out to tomorrow? The weekend? Or even next week. It’s important to find the balance so you don’t feel overwhelmed. Don’t be afraid to take control of your schedule and plan tasks/errands the way they work best for you and your schedule.
#8 Say No and Let it Go
Sometimes, as hard as we try, we just can’t do it all. Not only is this normal, but it’s completely ok. If you don’t have the time to complete something or it’s going to cut into time you’ve set aside for more important task then just say no. Not everything deserves your time and energy. And if it doesn’t deserve your time, then it doesn’t deserve a place on your to-do list.
#9 Take Breaks
Make sure you take a few breaks throughout the day. These don’t have to be super long. Just make sure you are actually taking them. You have to leave some time in the day for you to relax a little and catch your breath. If you don’t you will find yourself stressed, overwhelmed and completely burnt out. The absolute best thing you can do for yourself is to avoid getting to that point altogether. So schedule in time for those breaks and make a promise to yourself that you will actually take them.
#10 Turn off Notifications
The number 1 cause of all distractions is….. you guessed it, social media! Stop getting sucked into that blackhole that is Instagram and start giving yourself some of that precious time back. Turning off notifications is a great place to start so you don’t feel tempted. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel by putting that extra time towards something more meaningful and more productive.
And that’s it! If you start implementing these steps into your daily life you will be so surprised by how much more time you get back in your day. It really all starts with a little prep work ahead of time to get you more organized and in the right state of mind. I hope you found these tips and tricks helpful. And in the evening, when the day is winding down. I hope you can look back on the day and think “wow, today really was the most productive day ever.”
