Practicing gratitude is an extremely powerful technique if you are looking to add more positivity, happiness and abundance into your life. It sounds too good to be true (believe me I know), but I also know first hand just how important this simple technique is to changing your mindset in order to create a totally different life. One filled with more inspiration and positivity.
I know it can be challenging to find things to be grateful for when everything can feel so out of control at times, especially these days. So to help you get started I put together this little list to guide you through the process. Overtime you will begin to raise your vibration allowing you to bring even more wonderful things into your life to be grateful for.
Start Small
Begin each morning writing down 3-5 things in your life that you are grateful for. This will help shift your focus away from what you don’t have and more towards all that you do have. Think about things like having running water, heat in the winter or AC in the summer. Clean water to drink and shower with. Once you’ve made your list read it back to yourself and really soak in what you wrote. Read each of them one at a time slowly and really feel gratitude for each one.
I also highly recommend repeating this exercise right before bed. This is a great way to begin and end your day in the most positive way possible. You’ll go to bed with more love and light in your heart and you’ll wake up the same way.
Be Present
Make mental notes of the beautiful things you notice throughout your day. For example being grateful for a warm, sunny afternoon. Being able to hear the birds chirping, or getting to spend some time playing catch with your four-legged friend. Make this habit. You’ll soon start to train your mind to always look for moments to be grateful for. You’ll think of them without even trying.
Turn Chores into Moments of Gratitude
I use to absolutely hate going to the grocery store. Of all the errands I run on a regular basis this one was the worst for me. I don’t know what it is about grocery shopping but it would always put me in the worst mood even before I walked out the door. Then one day I started realizing that I shouldn’t be taking grocery shopping for granted. Instead of getting angry about having to take the time out of my day to grab them, I started practicing gratitude before heading out the door. Repeating to myself “I’m grateful I can afford healthy food to nourish my body with.” Not too long after this I felt the anger and annoyance disappear. I now look forward to going because it means I get to try out that new recipe I found and it feels good having the shelves stocked with healthy food.
You can practice this exercise with other chores or errands that typically get under your skin because I know not everyone hates the grocery store like I do.
Examples:
Laundry: I’m grateful I have clean water and electricity to wash my clothes with.
Cleaning: I’m grateful I have a home to take care of and that keeps me safe.
Soon you’ll start to feel that resentment disappear. Chores that once felt like a burden will soon feel more like a blessing.
What can Gratitude Do for You?
Gratitude is a simple, but powerful tool that will help shift your mindset in the most positive of ways. Instead of focusing on the unwanted/negative moments in life , you’ll start to realize that these challenges are apart of life. And how we deal with them is what matters. Try to find the good whenever you can. It exists even in the smallest of places.
